BOARD and BEHAVE™

Doggy Boot Camp for your Growly Pooch

Does your dog act like they want to attack every dog they see? Has your pup tried to eat your neighbor’s dog? Are you just frustrated that your dog is not listening to you? Is your dog impossible to control when walking, constantly pulling you down the street? Don’t wait for the inevitable problem, let us help you now. We can help your dog discover their inner angel with a house call or a Board and Train program tailored to their particular problem area.

Dogs playing at our facility in Gilroy.Let your aggressive dog come stay with us for a boot camp that is unique to the dog training industry. We will work on your dog’s social skills while they board with our balanced pack of dogs in a controlled environment. Your dog stays with us at The Dog House Inn of Gilroy, and learns how to be integrated into a pack of dogs at the right pace for your dog.  Some dogs do well very quickly, and some need more time.  Due to our strong belief that most problems develop in and around the dog's home base, and that we must help the owner be able to do this on their own, a house call is required either before your dog can participate in the Board and Behave™ program, or immediately after completing their stay.

Dogs working and playing harmoniously- this is our goal every day!The Board and Behave™ program begins with a 10 day minimum stay designed to target each dog’s problem area while reinforcing basic behavior standards.  This is not an obedience training program in any way. Your previously snarling, growling, teeth baring dog will soon realize that this behavior makes for few new dog friends. We rely on the strength of dog peer pressure, harnessing the desire of the dog to be part of a pack. We evaluate this on a case by case basis, and may recommend longer stays if the severity of the issue warrants. We are pleased that many of our Board and Behave™ program graduates come back for social boarding with us at The Dog House Inn of Gilroy, and then can board like a normal dog, at the normal boarding rate. How exciting is that!!

$650 and up, 10 day minimum

Read about how our dogs get along now!
"Bill and I can’t thank you enough for helping our dogs to get along!  We had been trying for 8 months to get Toby, my 180 lb English Mastiff, to stop trying to eat Bill’s 15 lb pug.  Throw my 50 lb female pit-bull in the mix and you can imagine what we were up against!  No matter what we tried, walking them together, penning them in separate rooms, etc., the instant Toby got near poor Pugsley he would try and nip him in the butt.  Trinity, my pit-bull, would try to protect Pugsley and that only erupted into more trouble.

Bill with the "kids" Bill and I had gotten engaged but agreed not to live together until we knew everyone would be happy and safe. We were really starting to think of waiting until one of the dogs passed away of old age!

I even called Cesar Millan’s center for help and they referred me to you. We decided to call Dog Behavior Rehab for help that day.  The day Toby and Pugsley left for your Board and Behave program we were cautiously optimistic.  I waved good bye to them each in their own crate.  I remember thinking I never in a million years thought I would trust anyone to take my dogs for training.

Toby and Pugsley....happy together at lastThank you for putting up with my daily phone calls to see how they were doing.   I’ll never forget the day we were talking on the phone and I asked you how they were doing. You told me they were both in Toby’s crate together. I thought I was going to faint! I asked if you needed to get off the phone and see if Pugsley was ok but you told me they’re fine, don’t worry.  That’s when I knew it was going to work.

The day they came home I couldn’t wait!  It was amazing to see you pull up with Toby in the backseat of your car, out of his crate, and Pugsley in the front seat!  You really worked a miracle with them.

Now, all three of them get along.  They sleep together, play together and eat together!  Bill has finally moved in and we can look forward to a long and happy life together.  I can’t thank you enough for helping us get our life on track.   Now, I highly recommend Dog Behavior Rehab to anyone I know that’s having problems with their pets. "
Thanks again for your miracle work,

Read about Bowser Becoming a Good Boy!
"I had just about given up on our 1 year old Boston Terrier named Bowser. He was a sweet dog at home, but outside around dogs, he was a nightmare: lunging, growling, nipping and barking at any dog that came near him. He also growled and nipped at people. After hundreds of dollars spent on training and obedience classes, I thought no one would be able to help with Bowser's aggression issues Bowser's being a good boy now!and he would be like this forever. It was heartbreaking to think that we would never be able to take him to the dog park or beach. Then one day someone gave me a business card for Dog Behavior Rehab. At first I was apprehensive. Will this also be another waste of time and money? But after talking to Sherry and learning about the services she provides, I felt very optimistic about her 10 day Board and Behave program. The 10 days were hard but I felt confident that Bowser would do well. Sherry kept us informed of the great progress he was making. When my husband and I picked Bowser up on the 10th day we were stunned. Was this the grumpy, aggressive, possessive Bowser we knew before? He was a totally reformed dog. He was actually getting along with dogs right before our eyes, sniffing them and allowing the dogs to sniff him back - something we'd never seen before from him. And when he did act up, one voice command would snap him out of it and put him back in line. We were thrilled! The next day I took him to the dog park and he did great! He actually played with some of the other dogs. I owe all of this to Sherry Boyer and her staff. They did a fantastic job with him. They are strict with the dogs but are also very loving, affectionate individuals. They provided a perfect balance of asserting their leadership and establishing rules and limitations, but also giving him the same kind of love and affection I would give him. Sherry provided us with the skills, confidence and tools needed to carry on the work she started with Bowser. In other words, Sherry taught us how to be better dog owners, by teaching us how to balance discipline and affection for our dog. Thanks Sherry, for making our dog a better dog, and in doing so, bettering our lives as dog owners as well."
Thanks,
Vanessa, Diego, Bowser, and Naomi

A recent update on Bowser (Yay!!):
PS: I dropped Bowser and Naomi off at doggie daycare and Bowser interacted with a HUGE Doberman…and the owners (of the daycare) said he was very calm and a "puss"...but still, it made me happy.

Read about Taco, the extremely aggressive Golden Retriever:
Taco, our Golden Retriever, is the best dog.  He has all the Golden Retriever characteristics: lovable, charming, sweet and eager to please – that is, when he is inside our house.  When we go outside, he transforms into another dog – hostile and growling towards other dogs, pulling on his leash, and paying no attention to his owners.  His behavior changed the day he was attacked by another dog at the local dog park, and for the following year, his behavior continued to worsen.  It was when he jumped on a runner and scratched her back while we were on our afternoon walk that we decided to have Rommey at Dog Behavior Rehab come out to do a house call for us.  We worked really hard with him after that, but Taco’s behavior outside of our home continued to be unpredictable and was escalating and we needed more help!  At that point we decided to enroll him at the Board and Behave Program through Dog Behavior Rehab.

The 10 day program gave Taco a head start.  Taco was still not allowed to play with other dogs with out supervision, but his behavior was improving for a change!  Walking him became bearable with the tips Rommey offered us.  I continued his program and continued taking Taco for boarding at the Dog House Inn whenever I was out of town.  At one of Taco’s weekend boarding, Taco was allowed in the big play area with all the other dogs and to my surprise he was the fun and playful dog I remembered.  I left a hostile dog on Thursday, and picked up my fun and loving Golden Retriever on Monday.  I am so happy that I continued boarding Taco at the Dog House Inn.  Rommey and Sherry are extremely knowledgeable and have so many training tips.  I learn something new every time I take Taco to day care and Taco has a great time playing with his new friends.  Thanks Rommey and Sherry!

A Taco update:  We’ve been taking Taco to the dog park and keeping his visits there under 5 minutes just to make sure his experience stays positive!!!
Dog Behavior Rehab Comment:  We wanted to include Taco’s story because he took longer than the first 10 days to improve. His improvement came very gradually, and we didn’t push him to “behave” with the other dogs.  We let him take it at his own pace, and thanks to Michelle and Brian’s commitment and need to go out of town a couple of times after that, Taco gained confidence and blossomed. He comes to dog daycare a couple of times a month now, and runs right out to be with the other dogs. This is the power of time, patience, and the power of a pack of good dogs. Not to mention awesome owners!!
